Back into the ‘rut’-ine
Material used in the title was borrowed from “How I Met Your Mother Season 1 Episode 3.”
Got back a couple days ago from a great trip home. I was thinking about blogging about it but then I realized it would make me long for home even more and I still have four long months to go.
I went back into the office on Tuesday to find the school was still on spring vacation. No students at school, and the teachers were busy with meetings. I was actually relieved as I was still feeling kind of tired from the plane ride and just wanted to relax in front of the computer surfing the web. But what do I find? NO INTERNET! I tried a few different computers and none were connected. I’m guessing they shut it down over the holidays for some very strange reason. Vacation time would be the time when you’d (well really when I’d) most need internet connection. So for the past 3 days I’ve suffered without internet, passing the time by “studying Japanese,” which people are starting to expect me to use, and daydreaming about what I’d like to blog about but never end up doing. Actually today I downloaded some Sudoku puzzles onto my USB key before I went to work and then printed them off when I got there. :) That chewed up a couple hours of my day.
An interesting event happened yesterday. The teachers apparently move desks every year and arrange their seating based on which classes they teach. For example, all the first year homeroom teachers sit together, the second years… etc. Anyway, I thought it was a lot of trouble to have to clean out your desk and change seats every year. I was wrong in a sense. When I was told they were going to move desks, they were actually MOVING desks. They took off the 2 sliding doors to the staff room, moved out several desks into the hallway to give them room inside to shuffle around desks. And these are the regular office sized desks with 3 drawers on one side so they were pretty heavy with all the stuff still inside. (Actually they looked rather heavy, I didn’t help move any). It was like watching ants work. They shuffled around about 30 desks and vacuumed the room in about 25 minutes. I think before actually witnessing it, the thought of them physically moving their desks popped into my head once as a joke because I found it strange that they said “move desks” instead of “change desks.”
Pharmacy
I’m going to tack this on because I’ve been thinking about blogging about it but I didn’t think there was enough for a stand-alone entry. With all my free time I’ve had a lot of time to think/daydream and after writing the pharmacy test, pharmacy is all I can think about. I want it so badly. The funny thing is that it’s not even about the potential to become a pharmacist, which is a well-paying job that I think I could enjoy, but I’m even more excited about the 4 years of schooling. I’d have the chance to essentially do-over university. During my undergrad, I really only began networking in 3rd year since that’s when you share the majority of your classes with the people in your program. Even then, everyone is so worried about marks that it feels like a competition. Pharmacy on the other hand is probably something like elementary or middle school where you go around to all your classes with the same classmates. Networking made easy. And lastly, I’d get to do frosh, which I missed out on the first time around because I was scared of meeting people. If I don’t get in, it will suck.
