You know it’s cold in your house when…
- you can see your breath while standing in your kitchen.
- running “hot” (40-degree) water from your kitchen tap causes a massive uprising of steam.
- after doing the dishes, they sit in the drainer, steaming. For quite a while.
- your olive oil solidifies in your cupboard. No lie. I had to hold the bottle under running warm water to use it.
-while taking a shower, the same “hot” water creates enough steam so that you can’t see your feet. My eyes are pretty bad mind you, but still.
- you accidently leave your fridge partially open while you’re at work, and when you come back, the food is still cold, if not colder.
- you make hot toast, put it on a plate (from a different cold cupboard), walk one step to the table, and you find yourself with cold toast. Maybe not cold, but what we’d consider room temperature in a real house.
I’ll try to think of more later.

when…
- you wear socks to bed
- you want to go but hesitate because the seat is cold

when…
- you can’t sleep without covering your head and you can’t sleep with a cover over your head
- your hair freezes into the same shape as your pillow

How come it’s so cold at your place? You don’t have heat?
